Pipe Fitter – Pipe fitters install and weld pipework on construction and engineering projects, with roles ranging from fitting heating systems in a hospital to installing pressure vessels and boilers in a factory. Duties can include working out the best way to do a job, installing and joining pipework and components using bolting and welding methods, making and modifying parts, maintenance checks, and finding and fixing faults.

 

Site Engineer - Site engineers perform a technical, organisational and supervisory role on construction projects. They apply designs and plans to mark out the site and can be involved in projects ranging from small scale to multi-million pound ventures. Site engineer’s duties include setting out, levelling and surveying a site, checking plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy, managing the contract design documents, liaising with the general workforce and local authority and ensuring compliance, planning the day to day work and management of the site and resolving any technical difficulties or other issues that arise.

 

Electrician/Electrical Engineer – Electricians fit, service and fix electrical equipment, circuits, machinery and wiring. Responsibilities can include installing power systems, checking systems to make sure they work efficiently and safely, making and installing control panels, fixing and maintaining electrical motors and transformers, and installing and maintaining street lighting and traffic management systems.

 

Quantity Surveyor - Quantity surveyors are involved right from the beginning of a project, when they prepare estimates, materials and cost plans, and once the project is under way, the quantity surveyor continually monitors the actual costs being incurred. Other duties include analysing competing designs, advising on which tender to accept, preparing the contract, work schedules and payment agreements, visiting sites to do schedule checks, and overseeing invoices and payments from contractors and suppliers.

 

Setting out Engineer – The setting out engineer is responsible for setting out, levelling and surveying the site; as per plans for a civils related project. Duties include checking plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy, overseeing the selection of materials, agreeing a price for materials and making cost-effective solutions, managing, monitoring and interpreting the contract design documents, liaising with workforce and resolving unexpected difficulties.

 

Service Engineer – The service engineer is responsible for carrying out a dynamic risk assessment for every site visit to minimise potential risks, diagnosing and quantifying repairs or upgrades and pricing accordingly. They must adhere to company quality standards and meet customer expectations on service delivery and professional standards.

 

Engineering Maintenance Technician - Engineering maintenance technicians maintain, install and, repair machinery. Responsibilities include drawing up and following a schedule for regular maintenance checks, showing machine operatives how to carry out routine tasks and ensuring they are completed regularly, checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they are accurate, and replacing parts.

 

Engineering Operative – An engineering operative is responsible for building up components and sub-assemblies into finished electrical or mechanical products. Main duties can include fitting parts to machinery and equipment, cutting and shaping parts and tools, operating machine tools, using moulding machines, and setting and operating hand-controlled or computer-controlled machines.
