Are you Asbestos Aware?
There has been a recent focus within the construction industry on raising the awareness of asbestos as there are over 4,000 deaths related to the diseases each year.
Employers are being urged to protect tradesmen across Britain from the hidden killer as the number of deaths from the disease has increased in recent years.
Many people believe that asbestos is a problem from the past, but half a million non-domestic buildings still contain the fatal dust.
Integra People have recently won a contract to supply tradesmen for a large retailing company and have ensured that everybody who is working on the project has completed an asbestos awareness course to protect them during their role.
Paul Quinn, Sales Director at Integra, said: “We want to ensure the risk for our workers is at an absolute minimum as we take the health of our temporary workforce very seriously, which is why we ensure they all complete the asbestos course before they start work on this project.
“Once people have suffered the effects of asbestos in the workplace there is very little that can be done to help them, which is why it is so important for people to take a course and be fully aware of the dangers of working with asbestos to prevent any diseases.”
The training course includes looking at the effects asbestos has on health, the types of products likely to contain asbestos, safe work practices and control measures and emergency procedures on how to deal with an asbestos incident.
