Is Health and Safety the key to success?
The tough economic times has driven some companies to cut corners on health and safety, here at Integra People we believe that it is more important than ever and have ensured that all of our workers are placed in the safest work environments possible.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has urged the UK not to turn a blind eye on health and safety spend and we couldn't agree more, it is essential for businesses.
Managing Director at Integra People, Paul Lewis said: "We have a duty of care for both our temporary and permanent workforce and we have insisted on maintaining investment levels into health and safety and not cutting corners.
"When we moved into our head office in Birchwood two years ago, it was designed so there were no hazards and we thought about every detail from a health and safety perspective. We carried out risk assessments on the chairs to ensure they were ergonomically correct and we ensured there were no cables on show so there were no trip hazards. We also have a strong structure in place to protect our temporary workforce and when required, we have sent them on training courses such as asbestos awareness so they are protected in their role.
"We wanted to keep the standards high as employees who feel safe are more likely to work harder and generally proactive companies have a productive workforce, therefore our health and safety standards improve the service we provide to clients."
According to the Health and Safety Executive, 62% of employees think that health and safety is no longer a priority for their company since the onset of the recession.
The British Safety Council (BSC) announced that 1 in 12 workers feel that they should take risks to save money.
Paul added: "Complying to health and safety regulations pays off and means we provide our clients with the most efficient service. According to the Health and Safety Executive, in 2010/11, 26.4 million working days were lost due to work-related illness and workplace and injury, so maintaining our high standards means that we reduce the possibility of our workforce taking sick days."
